ARTGERECHT Roger Cicero & Big Band (Appropriate to the Species)
22.02.2010

‘ARTGERECHT’ is the title of Roger Cicero’s new Album and when you look at it carefully and listen to it attentively, then the title hardly leaves any leeway for interpretation. Roger Cicero with his typical Background Jazz, his success with Big Band Swing and his personal roots in Soul and Funk has transposed the whole spectrum into this album which becomes fully ‘appropriate to his species’.
Every musician wants to make a step forward with their work and with each new project and this is exactly what Roger Cicero has done; he has developed further and makes it patently clear that he is able to offer much more as an artist than ‘just’ being one of the most wide-ranging German singers. He is a musician to the core, he is an accomplished composer and arranger, and has a stylistic background. In addition to this are his qualities as a live performer which he expresses in his incredible joy for making music that carries the singers and musicians to impressive heights, and which is characterized by the wide range of his voice. This, more than ever sways the audience with an inimitable mixture of energy, emotion and nonchalance. In order to transfer the new style of his album ‘ARTGERECHT‘ to a live performance, for this tour, the band, already made up of true jazz specialists, has been especially extended by two more musicians . Percussion and guitar but also a Hammond organ and a grand piano can once more be heard at the ‘ARTGERECHT’ tour.
The audience can look forward to an even stronger stylistic and more elaborate production, which is the perfect background for staging Roger Cicero's grandiose music. There is nothing new about artists incorporating personal experiences in their work. In Roger Cicero’s case, it was the birth of his first son that left a deep impression on him, and he himself says: “I would never have dreamed the day would come when I really liked a guy!” He is simply really cool and his humour, that has meanwhile become his trademark, continues to blossom ‘appropriate to the species’.
He has reaped various awards, sold one million albums and his tours are always sold out. That is Roger Cicero’s success story so far, “doing many concerts, that’s the ideal state of affairs for any musician” says Roger Cicero. He fortunately has this ideal state of affairs! Between October 2009 and March 2010, his tour ‘ARTGERECHT – Roger Cicero & Big Band’ will take him to around 50 towns in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Those who think this takes far too long, can admire Roger Cicero in the cinema from 12 March. In his debut as an actor, he plays the musician Ricci Blum in ‘HILDE’, whom Hildegard Knef repeatedly meets at various important stages in her life.
